25 Torphichen Street, Edinburgh EH3 8HX  Tel 0131 221 9999

Samaritans are available 24 hours a day to provide confidential emotional support for people who are experiencing feelings of distress or despair, including those which may lead to suicide.

We are not a religious or a political organisation. We don't make judgments and we don't offer advice. Instead, we believe in the value of having time and space to explore difficult feelings.  We also believe that being listened to in confidence, and accepted without prejudice, can alleviate despair and suicidal feelings.

Edinburgh and the Lothians Samaritans was the second Branch to be set up in the UK and the first in Scotland.  We work from accessible premises in the West End of Edinburgh 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Use the links on the left to find out more about what we do,  together with how and why we do it. We always welcome new volunteers to the Branch and we invite you to get in touch if you are interested.

Whether you are seeking support, are interested in becoming a volunteer or would just like to know more for any reason we hope you will find what you are looking for on this website.

*We particularly welcome applications from people who are from ethnic minorities and those from the new European states because these groups are currently under-represented in the branch.
