Outreach
Reaching out into the community

Edinburgh and the Lothians Samaritans are available 24 hours per day and 365 days per year to give emotional support to those that seek it.  We believe that we can do more than this  and thus we have our Outreach programme which actively seeks to reach out to the wider community.

Talks Programme

Edinburgh and the Lothians Samaritans have a team of speakers who can give talks to a variety of organisations be they voluntary like ourselves, corporate or schools and other educational establishments. We can talk about what we do and how we can provide support. We can also tailor our talks and can run workshops  to suit specific needs such as the development of  listening skills. Click here for school talks information.

Hospitals

In 2004 we launched an innovative new scheme in conjunction with the A&E Department of the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary with the aim of offering emotional support to those admitted to the hospital after making attempts at self-harm or suicide.

Under these circumstances patients are offered the opportunity for telephone support from Samaritans at times of their choosing after their discharge from the hospital. The service is provided in complete confidence and everything discussed during such calls remains entirely confidential within the Samaritans.
